RUBiS Sponsors Peace on Da Streets School Edition

Nassau, Bahamas, June 10th, 2021- RUBiS Bahamas Ltd. continues to be a light for the youth of the Bahamas by sponsoring the Youth Against Violence, Scooter Reid Peace on Da Streets Basketball Classic School Edition. RUBiS has been a long-time partner of YAV as the title sponsor for the Slam Dunk Contest in the annual Peace on Da Streets Basketball Classic.

The Peace on Da Street Basketball Classic has been operating for over 25 years. It is one of the highly recognized tournaments to re-direct at-risk youth between the ages 10-25 years to positive and proactive activities that will educate, empower, motivate, and most importantly keep peace on the streets of New Providence.

Last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual summer classic like many other events were cancelled. This year, “there was an extreme need get students involved as sporting activities at schools were suspended inclusive of tournaments and leagues. This school edition to the Peace on Da Streets Classic afforded our youth an opportunity to release stress and built up energy. Opposed to fighting, they can shoot hoops instead of guns” says Dr. Carlos Reid, President and Founder of Youth Against Violence.

The school edition classic hosted 25 primary, junior, and senior high schools from across New Providence. Over the course of a week, the girls and boys played fifty-two (52) games. This was an exciting event for not only the talented players but also the attendees. Dr. Reid was able to obtain special approval to allow persons to experience some normalcy pre COVID. He also used the occasion to name the park after his recently deceased brother, Michael ‘Scooter’ Reid.

Former RUBiS Sales & Marketing Manager, Latia Duncombe said, “the pandemic was hard on everyone. All households were impacted one way or the other. We commend Carlos for being persistent in the work he is doing at The Hope Center. We are honored to be a part of the outdoor classic that provided an outlet for the youth. RUBiS’ sponsorship of $1,500 provided a cash prize to the winners of the open division and funding to YAV.”
