Rubis Bahamas Hosts its Very First Blood Drive

Saturday, April 15th Rubis Bahamas Limited hosted its very first blood drive. Rubis partnered with major brands including, Doctors Hospital; the only private hospital in the Bahamas, Vitamalt; a popular malt known to replenish the blood and provide energy and, Radio House; a top media house, for a successful event. According to Doctors Hospital Blood Bank Supervisor, Brensil Rolle, this event collected the most units they have received from a single blood drive this year.

At the beginning of the year, a tragedy occurred at the public hospital that went viral related to the need for blood. This sparked outrage amongst the community and family of the deceased. As a result, more organizations pushed to host blood drives as it became an eye opener for the ongoing need for blood in the country. Rubis is proud to contribute to this noble cause.

The “35 days of blood” blood drive also brought awareness to the shelf life of donated blood. Blood expires after 35 days and has components that expire after 5 days. According to Raymond Samuels, Rubis Managing Director “the blood drive was timely, it provided an educational element, and we look forward to hosting the event again next year. We cannot put a price on blood, but offering an added incentive in addition to saving a life along with involving major partners was key.”

Rubis and its partners collected sufficient blood to save up to 63 lives! The blood drive was held at Rubis’ newest station, Rubis Gladstone Road from 10am -3pm. The “35 Days of Blood” blood drive exceeded Doctors Hospital previous record of the most units collected in a single blood drive. Donors and deferred donors either received a $20 Rubis gift card or promotional items and a Vita malt. All partners are excited for the next drive.
